Käpykolon väkeä -exhibition

The exhibition “Käpykolon väkeä” in the main library of Salo is based on the children’s book series “Käpykolon väkeä”
In the “Käpykolon väkeä” exhibition, visitors can peek into the home of a small squirrel named Paju. The Heartleaf squirrel family lives in an old television in Huotarinen’s garage. Author Leena Parkkinen has created detailed miniature worlds from recycled materials. In addition to the miniature worlds, the exhibition features photo panels related to the illustrations in the books. Photographer Zagros Manuchar has taken enchanting photos.
Author Leena Parkkinen has used materials such as polymer clay, bottle caps, egg cartons, candy jars, and anything else she could find to build the miniature worlds.
The exhibition is based on the book series “Käpykolon väkeä” (Tammi). The series includes the books “Käpykolon väkeä: Syysvieras” and “Käpykolon väkeä: Yllätysten talvi”. The third part of the series will be published in May 2025.
The exhibition also includes a workshop held in the Laurinsali hall of the main library on March 12th, where the authors will guide the participants in making miniature objects. The workshop is free of charge and anyone can try building their own miniature world.
