ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Ilona Niemi’s human-animal figures explore the human condition through a distinctly feminine lens. While her hybrids trace their roots to the earliest art – such as the bird-human paintings in the Lascaux caves – they mirror the world today. Her works depict humans as equals to other animals, merging species and blurring the boundaries between nature and artifice. IIona studied art in Scotland and the USA (MFA, 2007). Her work has been exhibited at venues including the National Portrait Gallery in London (2002), Gescheidle Gallery in Chicago (2007) and Bærum Kunsthall in Oslo (2023). She has held solo exhibitions at, for example, Joensuu and Salo Art Museums, and her works are included in the collections of EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art, the Royal Scottish Academy, and others.

David Graham is a Scottish animator living and working in Lukkarinmäki. He often reacts to societal and political absurdities in his work. David is interested in creating a little world that is not too dissimilar to the one we live in; making the viewers laugh and see their everyday life in a new light. David has an MFA degree from the USA and a BA (Hons) in Visual Communication from Scotland. He also attended an animation course at the University of the West of England. David’s films have been shown at Helsinki’s Animatricks I,International Animation Festival, Linoleum Contemporary Animation and Media Festival in the Ukraine and Spike & Mike’s Gauntlet of Animation in the USA.
